Latex and oil-based types of paint finish is popular paints for home decoration

There are different types of paint finish available for walls, ceilings, and woodwork. Most painters like water-based paints because they dry within a few hours. Latex and oil-base are the two kinds of paint for home decorating projects.

Each consists of four basic ingredients: solvent, binder, pigment, and additives. Latex paint dries quickly on the surface, so you can apply second coats in a few hours. Oil-based paints, also called alkyd paints, give a durable, smooth finish.

However, there remain many other water based finish with decorative interior applications. Paint is a way of applying and holding a film of color to the surface of a material or object, sometimes for purely decorative reasons. Walls have different porosity and absorbency, depending on their finish, and the coverage and drying times of the paints.

Not all paint is created equal; the quality of the final finish depends not only on the painter's skill, but also on the good chemistry and reliability of the coating.

Hidden beneath the many types of water based paint, primers and sealers are nonetheless key ingredients in a quality paint job. For special surfaces: metal, plastic, painting over wallpaper, painting previously stained or waxed surfaces, your paint dealer can recommend an appropriate product.

Flat paint paint tends to absorb rather reflect light, so they are good choices for hiding surface flaws. However, they are also more difficult to keep clean. High-gloss paints have the opposite; they reflect light and appear very shiny. Dirt cannot stick to them as easily as it does to flat paint.
