What is gloss finishes

These types or paint have a high reflective shine. They are almost always oil-based, with the exception of some of the newer acrylic decorating paints, and are therefore fairly slow-drying paints. What is eggshell finishes These ere often referred to as satin finishes and have a soft, diffused sheen. They are silky to the touch, and so often an excellent base coat over which other paint effects can be applied.

What is textured paint

Textured paint is most commonly used to obliterate minor cracks in otherwise sound masonry or plaster. Available in a range of different textures, the roughest varieties can cover cracks up to in wide and should be applied with a coarse roller. Those with finer textures should be applies with a synthetic fiber roller or a standard brush.

What is non-slip paint

Non-slip paint is designed to provide a firm foothold on surfaces such as metal stairways and fire escapes. Always use a primer and be sure to read the manufacturer's instructions carefully before application.

What is fluorescent paint

Fluorescent paint is generally used in the industrial sector, and is also applied to vehicles and aircraft for safety and recognition purposes. It is also available in artist's acrylic for some decorative effects. What in metallic paint This paint is designed specifically for use on metal and contains powdered copper, gold or bronze. Generally applied at full strength, it is water resistant and can withstand temperatures of up to 212

What is flat finishes

These paints have a finish with absolutely no shine or sheen, rather like smooth, high-quality writing paper or chamois leather. The greatest advantage of flat finishes is that they will help even out an irregular surface and will not shine when illuminated from an angle. However, they are not without their drawbacks, namely a tendency to collect dust and the fact that they are harder to wipe clean than eggshell, semi-gloss, or gloss paints.
